Project Focus: The Kensington Townhouse

For this historic restoration, the challenge was to respect the building's Grade II listed status while introducing modern functionality. Our Heritage Series was selected for its period-appropriate aesthetics, while our bespoke service was engaged to create custom backplates that concealed modern locking mechanisms, satisfying both conservation officers and client expectations.

A Focus on Finishes

Aged Brass handle close-up

Aged Brass

Our most popular 'living' finish. Unlacquered and meticulously hand-aged in our workshop, it possesses a deep, warm character from day one. This finish is designed to evolve, responding to its environment and the touch of a hand to develop a unique and beautiful patina over time. It tells the story of its use, making it the perfect choice for creating spaces with a sense of history and soul.

Polished Nickel

Warmer and richer than chrome, polished nickel offers a timeless, high-shine finish with a subtle golden undertone. It provides a classic luxury that feels both substantial and elegant. This versatile finish beautifully complements both light and dark palettes, bringing a touch of reflective, sophisticated glamour to modern and traditional interiors alike. It is sealed with a durable lacquer for lasting brilliance.

Matte Black handle close-up

Matte Black

A bold, contemporary choice for making a confident design statement. Our matte black finish is achieved through a high-durability electroplating process over a solid brass base, resulting in a deep, non-reflective surface that is beautifully tactile. It provides a striking, graphic contrast against light-coloured doors or creates a subtle, layered look on darker surfaces.

The Essence of Design

The essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. It is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what's in or what's out. It is a search for a quality of life. True design is about creating spaces that are not just visually pleasing, but are also a true reflection of their inhabitants. The details, from the largest piece of furniture to the smallest piece of hardware, are the vocabulary with which we write this personal story.

Designer Spotlight

"For the Kensington Townhouse project, we needed hardware that felt historically authentic yet flawlessly executed. Elysian Handles was the only brand that could deliver that rare combination of soul and precision."

Behind the Lens

Beyond the perfect frame lies a story of light, texture, and atmosphere. A truly successful interior is not just what you see, but what you feel—the warmth of a sunbeam on wood, the subtle texture of linen, the satisfying weight of a solid brass handle. It is in these quiet, sensory details that a space truly comes to life.

Design Principles

The scale of hardware is its conversation with the architecture. An oversized pull on a delicate cabinet can feel jarring, while an undersized knob on a grand door is lost. We believe in the 'golden ratio' of design, ensuring each piece is proportionally balanced to its environment. This creates a subconscious sense of harmony and rightness, elevating the entire space through considered balance.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that materials should be true to themselves. We use solid, unlacquered brass and bronze not just for their durability, but for their 'living' quality. These materials are not static; they evolve with time and touch, developing a rich patina that tells a story. This material honesty brings a layer of authenticity and soul to an interior that plated alternatives can never replicate.

In a world of screens, the physical act of touch is a luxury. The first interaction with a space is often through its hardware. We obsess over the haptics: the satisfying weight of a solid lever, the smooth, cool feel of polished metal, the precise click of a well-made mechanism. This focus on the tactile experience transforms a functional object into a small, daily moment of pleasure and reassurance.

Trends fade, but classic forms endure. Our designs draw inspiration from the enduring principles of architectural history—from the pure geometry of Modernism to the graceful lines of the Georgian era. By focusing on timeless silhouettes and avoiding fleeting fashions, we create hardware that feels relevant today and will remain elegant for generations to come, ensuring a lasting return on a design investment.
